Beginners 1

I have little to no knowledge of Spanish.

I would love to be able speak and understand Spanish.

I might be familiar with some common words or expressions but I don’t know how to use them properly.

Beginners 2

I know the most common greetings.

I am familiar with gender variations in adjectives.

I know how to introduce myself and others and how to ask others for personal information.

I know how to talk about my professions, my nationality and some of my hobbies.

I know the numbers from 0 to 100.

I am familiar with the definite articles (el/la/los/las).

I am familiar with the 3 conjugations (-AR, -ER, and -IR).

I know how to conjugate regular verbs in the present tense.

I know how to conjugate a few irregular verbs (SER, ESTAR, TENER and QUERER) in the present tense.

I know some uses of POR, PARA and POR QUÉ/PORQUE.

Pre-Intermediate

I know how to ask questions using most interrogative particles including QUÉ and CUÁL.

I know how to express existence and location using HAY and ESTAR.

I am familiar with the indefinite articles (un, uno, una, unas).

I know how to interact in a shop.

I know the numbers from 100 to ∞.

I know the demonstrative adjectives and pronouns (este, esta, esto, estos, estas).

I know how to speak about physical appearance and character.

I know how to express likes and dislikes (GUSTAR, ENCANTAR, INTERESAR).

I have a good grasp of the following vocabulary: clothes, colours, climate and geography, family and personal adjectives.

Intermediate 1

I know how to conjugate the reflexive verbs (i.e. LEVANTARSE, VERTIRSE, DUCHARSE).

I am able to talk about the parts of the day and to say what time it is.

I am familiar with the PRETÉRITO PERFECTO tense and I know how to use it to talk about past events.

I have a broad vocabulary about food and drinks.

I know how to order in a restaurant.

I can talk about towns and cities and ask or provide information about locations.

I can recognise a large number of irregular verbs (i.e. SABER, PONER, PODER, DAR, CONOCER, DECIR...).

I can describe my daily life in detail.

I am familiar with the impersonal form of SE (i.e. SE VENDE CASA, EN ESPAÑA SE COME PAELLA).

I know the correct use of several prepositions and adverbs to express location and frequency.

Intermediate 2

I am able to speak about my past experiences (what have I done and what I did).

I know how to express whether I like or not something by using the vocabulary of preferences.

I can invite someone else in everyday conversations.

I can ask and give permission in everyday situations.

I know how to ask for favours.

I can speak about my future plans and intentions

I am able to give my opinion and debate about different concepts through different expressions of agreement or disagreement

I know how to give recommendations and commands in the correct way (IMPERATIVES).

Upper Intermediate/Advanced Conversation

I am comfortable with Spanish being spoken for the entire class.

I have at least some knowledge of present subjunctive and conditional tenses.

I can describe routines and habits in the past.
